I believe I was mistaken when I said that all you had to do is install the locales package. This should fix the problem if you're running the full XFree86 Xserver, the KDrive servers are, however, another issue.
According to the KDrive website, the tiny servers don't support locales very well. The author has to set up his Spanish keyboard with xmodmap every time he restarts the Xserver. I was following a similar topic in another thread and apparently the fix is somewhat easier with DSL.
Append `lang=es' to your boot string and it should fix the problem. If that doesn't work, maybe I can start on a script that sets the keyboard using xmodmap.
