Sadly apt-get is not enabled and trying to enable it errors out in wget because I have no connection to the net which is why I need it so I can get to the net and you see my problem.

dpkg keeps erroring dpkg: /var/lib/dpkg/status: No such file or directory.
*edit* As per a suggestion from another web page, I created both the dir and used touch to create the status file but didn't resolve the error. Where exactly should this directory be in a HD installation? I have it created in both my /home folder and on my hda1 where DSL is installed.

And I did read the Dillo page, thats how I knew to try aptitude and I also tried MyDSL but there again I need an internet connection.

I thought I down loaded dsl-dpkg.dsl.info from the MyDSL but I don't know how to load it. When I try to use Apt-get update it returns an error:
E: could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock -open (2 no such file or directory)

E: unable to lock the list directory
I tried using sudo also.

since your using hd install, you have to install dsl's as user dsl. so did you install dsl-dpkg.dsl.info as user dsl? for version 3.0 and up the mydsl load is in the mydsl icon it says "load local mydsl extentions " for older versions the mydsl load is in emelfm.
