I orignally had DSL on my 70CT as well and I found that the machine was just a bit underpowered to play mp3s Under windows using winamp, I was able to turn down the conversion rate (22KHz was ok), then the mp3s skipped very little. The same may work under XMMS if you can turn down the conversion rate. mpg123 (the command line mp3 player) can only decode the mp3s at the full 44Khz and used up 100% cpu time :S Sorry for the bad tidings, but if you can get it to work better let us know!
