Been there and done that many times when I first started playing with DSL, but as long as I could get into DSL from either the hard drive or the CD, typing
mkliloboot
and telling it where my DSL install is has never failed to restore my access to both my windows and DSL partition. It may be overkjill, but its easy.
Using a windoze boot floppy and typing
fdisk /mbr
from xterm will also restore you windows boot. Unfortunately it will wipe out lilo, but not your linux partitions.
One should always back up any important data on the HD before trying to install a new OS.
