As far as myDSL extensions go, you need to be dsl....there's no way around it unless you feel like re-writing the mydsl scripts. For most packages this should not present a problem for other users actually running the programs, but they just don't have an available desktop icon or menu item from which to launch the program. These things can be copied from /home/dsl if needed.
There are many issues involved with this behavior. I'm pretty sure it *could* be rebuilt to accomodate installation by other users, but my guess is that the work needed to do this is heavy enough that other more important needs are being considered a much greater priority.
