I used the GParted Live CD when I partitioned my USB stick (I did first partition FAT32 for storeage/also readable by M$OS, and second partiton ext2 for the DSL).

Anyway, wonderful tool... Just boot off it and you should be able to do almost any kind of work with partitons.
