Yeah - it maxes out the CPU on my slow computer, too. It's not ideal, but it's the best I've managed to do so far. It's pretty intensive.

Has anyone ever tried anything similar with another browser like Opera? Is it even possible to do something similar?

It looks like a DSL version that supports flash 9 is in the works, and will most likely work better than using an emulator.

What emulator..?

In any case, (repeating from other forums threads) it seems that most users avoid flash9 and use 7 if possible.  Others who use 9 tend to have problems, though some have reported that it works for them.

Yea, I know....as the name suggests, "Wine Is Not an Emulator," and is supposed to, in some cases, work better than the linux version.  That has not been my experience, however, although it comes in handy when a linux version of an app isn't available (if it works).

I can understand preferring flash 7, but not having access to an increasing number of links (or sites) that require flash 9 is another matter.

I'm a little confused...

This is the first time I came across this topic because I just installed DSL 3.4.11 on an older sony vaio desktop along with firefox 2.0.14 and flash 9, and I found youtube crashes the browser.  So I was looking for help.

However, I see here that people have been having trouble running flash 9 with DSL.  I had not run into that before this.  I am currently working on a P3 866 machine with 512MB RAM that has been running DSL 3.01 for a long time with firefox 2 and flash 9 with no problems whatsoever.

First, I installed firefox 2 from the tar.gz available at mozilla.com.  Then I had to get ALSA working on the computer.  And then I installed flash from source (after installing GCC and proper libraries).  No problems since.

However, no I am having this problem with the Sony, where flash 9 has no sound, and video works fine with almost any site but youtube.

If anyone has any idea, please let me know.  I know that ALSA is working because I have sound when using XMMS.

Thanks.
