No, it is only temporary.  If you do not want to backup, the easiest way is to _not_ use restore.  If you still want your previous settings, just rename it and let DSL pick it up as a regular mydsl extension.

I had an extention that failed to load on boot that stopped all further restore operations resulting in default /opt and /home being loaded. Not thinking I rebooted to take a closer look at the measages which resulted in my backup file being corrupted due to the auto backup on shutdown.
Not good!
