Has anyone ever had experience installing DSL with a floppy and a parallel port backpack cdrom drive? I'm running the floppy installation right now, but it would have been nice to do it from the cd. Can anyone shed some light on how to setup a boot floppy that would look for a cd?

I have used the parallel backpack CDRW drive with knoppix and I would expect that it also would work with DSL.

However, I have NOT used it to boot up DSL.

Here are the instructions that I used to get it to work with knoppix:

I would expect that if you did some serious hacking with the initial ramdisk scripts and included the right driver modules on the floppy disk it would be possible to get it to work with a custom boot floppy. Kinda like the zipboot thread that was recently posted in these forums.

Yeah I saw that post for the parallel zip drive. I just haven't been ambitious enough to try and make my own boot disk. Thanks for the link on how to get the drive up once I've got it running. I'm sure that will come in handy.

Ok this is really stupid but I just ended up using part of the floppy method (making 2 dos partitions) then booted to dos with the backpack drivers on that dos boot floppy loaded the dos backpack drivers and copied the files to the d drive from the cd that way. It was kind of a copout but it worked!
