Out of interest, I looked at the Unichrome Project site that dw mentioned - http://unichrome.sourceforge.net. There's quite a bit of work involved. 1. compile XFree86 - www.xfree86.org (I don't think the Xfree86.dsl package will do, because you need the build tree). 2. copile Unichrome VIA driver 3. compile mp2player, or mythTV, or patch Xine, or patch MPlayer.
To achieve this in DSL you would need to install the gcc1.dsl and gnu-utils.dsl packages, and either kernel source or kernel headers. Considering the scope of your undertaking, I think it would be better to consider a "heavyweight" Linux distribution - Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Slackware, Mandriva, Suse. Or perhaps a "middleweight" distribution - Vector, Mepis.
