I am trying to install DSL 0.6.1 (bought last week) and am running into a lot of issues.
I'm installing onto a Toshiba Satellite Pro 425CDT with a 2gb hd. I've created a 300mb, bootable partition on /dev/hda1 for DSL.
First, just booting DSL from the CD always generates a "modprobe can't locate module... minix". But it passes this by and it doesn't seem to cause a problem for normal operation in this mode.
dsl-hdinstall moves some files to the hd correctly, but others aren't. For example, /proc on the hd is always empty after the install and booting from the hd generates the error- "/proc/partitions doesn't exist, disk scan bypassed".
DSL always starts up (the initial boot screen) in frame buffer mode. Before I get to the spot to change it, stuff happens- errors, or asking to finish the hd install (changing passwords), but it all happens off screen. The penguin is cute, but the lower frame is too long.
If I do not perform the lilo install, the boot fails by generating an endless, repeating output of a hex numbex (9A?). If I install it, I run into the frame buffer screen issue. Even slogging past that, since /proc is empty causes the install to hang.
Any thoughts on how to proceed?
TIA,
Dave
