Hi - I've just started a wiki page here:
Low cost computer
I'm into "appropriate technology" but I have a limited understanding of computers. So the contributions of people here would be very helpful. You can edit the page easily - if you're not used to wikis, then click the edit tab, and it should be fairly intuitive.
Keep in mind that the aim is not to advocate a particular O/S or software, but rather to meet the needs of people with limited resources, limited or no access to technical support, and/or limited education. So excellent documentation is critical (and for that reason, DSL would not be a suitable choice - or at least not yet).
