I'd like to be able to save my user configuration files on a remote host (or maybe USB flash) so that anywhere I pop in the CD, I can download the config.

Is this do-able?  I'm talking about things like the Fluxbox options, maybe my bookmarks, email server info.  That would be really cool.

DSL is awesome  - keep up the good work!

I second this request. In reviewing the Knoppix site it looks like Knoppix has a script available to make a floppy persistant home. Would that translate over to DSL?

Don't forget that you have the abililty to backup and restore files (to a USB flash drive for example) from the main menu option: File Restoration -> Backup | Restore.

By editing the filetool.lst file that resides in your home directory to include those configurations, files, directories, etc. that you want backed up (and then doing a backup), you can have DSL restore them at boot by giving it the option "knoppix restore".

So far, this has worked very well for me, but I could see using a symlink pointing to a home directory located elsewhere (like the Knoppix persistant home) would speed things up for some if a lot of files were involved.

I'm already very grateful that John has put together an excellent BBC desktop. I use a few various LiveCDs in my work, but DSL is the one I've chosen to keep on my person because it contains virtually every tool I need for a desktop (and it just got even better with 0.5.2!), melds with my USB flash key flawlessly (SanDisk Cruzer-Mini), and still have everything fit on a 50 MB CD. Thanks John!

5.2 now? you are really killing us 56k users! I can live with it though, the update is usually worth while. :laugh:

Thanks guys.  I just want to make it clear that this project is not a one man show.

jayjay, you said:
>>save my user configuration files on a remote host

I've thought about this a lot of times and I think it will eventually end up in DSL.  Something like:
grabhome=example.net/remotecompressed.tar.gz
