Hi @ all. Discovered DSL a few days ago. It's a great distro. Lean and sexy. The perfect system to boot my computer at work. Unfortunately the hd is secured by SafeGuard Easy...

So I try to install DSL on my usb stick with the help of this How To.

Problem:
Failing at 2.4. The system doesn't recognize my usb stick. I plug it in and cdrecord --scanbus only shows the cd-drive although all modules (mentioned in 2.3) are loaded.

dmesg says (after plug in):
Code Sample
scsi singledevice 2 0 0 1
scsi singledevice 2 0 0 2
scsi singledevice 2 0 0 3
scsi singledevice 2 0 0 4
scsi singledevice 2 0 0 5
scsi singledevice 2 0 0 6

Anyone's got a glue?

Sounds like your USB stick is not being recoginized as a USB Mass Storage Device.

Try going to:

http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/

and see if someone has gotten your model of USB stick to work with Linux

Strange.
Got no problems to mount my usb stick with other distros. Or do I get anything wrong?  ???

Got a twinmos usb stick. And yes, it's listet on the recommended site (id: 0x126f:0x2168). It should work.

Formated the stick with ext3. Exactly the same result, even
Code Sample
VFS: Can't find ext3 filesystem on dev ide0(3,1).

in dmesg.

lsmod:
Code Sample
usb-uhci        21664   0  (unused)
usbcore         57600   1  [ehci-hcd hid usb-storage usb-uhci]

Now I went back to fat16.
Plugged in the stick before I booted from CD. Then I "insmoded" ehci-hcd.

Now I get following dmesg (also with some boot messages):
Code Sample
sda: read capacity failed.

hub.c: new usb device 00:1d.7-2, assigned address 2

Still getting:
Code Sample
mount: /dev/sda is not a valid block device

when I mount sda (sda entry in fstab exists).
And cdrecord --scanbus gets me the same output than before.
