Hello, i have a dell cp m233xt oldie but goodie laptop. I can only get X working by loading the xfree86.unc at bootup. I then choose the vesa config file. The lcd for my laptop is 1024x768, but when X loads, it only comes up 800x600. the x config file has only the 1024x768 setting, as i have removed the 800x600 and 640x480, but it still boots up into 800x600. Any ideas? -Thanks Posted by curaga on Feb. 05 2008,06:48
Any errors (lines with EE or WW) in your X log (/var/log/XFree.0.log)?

< http://www.xfree.org/4.3.0/Status22.html#22 > Since you have the NM2160, you should get accelerated display & higher resolutions by using the neomagic driver instead of the vesa one. Posted by xmrkite on Feb. 06 2008,05:57
I tried the neomagic config file, and x didn't load at all. I'll have to get back to you on the log files, i'll take a look at that tomorrow.-Thanks Posted by edgy on June 12 2008,05:53
On my Dell, I discovered that I could boot from the DSL CD, version 3.4, with just "fb1024x768" as the only cheat-code (no "dsl" first, or anything else), and the display came up full size and clean. If that works for you as well, you can make the fb... part work like a normal cheat-code by preceeding it with "xmodule=fbdev". Here's an example line, this time starting with the "dsl" label: dsl fromhd=hda1 xmodule=fbdev fb1024x768 home=hda3 <more cheat-codes, if needed> Hope this helps. |
