my laptop wont boot because it freezes when it tries to load the wireless card at boot.  It says 'card services release does not match'.  but it still probes the cards and finds them.  Just locks up instead of booting.  Any suggestion?

hello:

i use the same card (orinoco lucent silver) with my laptop and it boots and works great, my laptop is an ASUS L2000 1ghz, 256mb ram, my AP is a 3com Home Connect 802.11b

maybe it is conflicting with any other hardware of your laptop, try a different wireless card.

thanks

yeah, due to some problems with dropping my laptop years ago, i cant remove my wireless card without performing major surgery to get it back in.  It's an old laptop i'm trying not to sink any dough into.   Its a case where you make due with what you can.  I've tried loading other live cds (knoppix, gentoo, redhat, etc...)  They have trouble even picking up the pcmcia (due to irq conflict?) and skip the wireless card altogether.  I've tried setting the bios up to let the os handle the interrupts without luck.  Am i SOL?

After setting the interrupts, try a couple of cheatcodes at the boot prompt:

dsl pnpbios=off

or

dsl acpi=off

or

dsl pci=bios

It might work.
