Hi,

Searched the forums before asking... Does damnsmall 4.x rc2 kernel support ethernet bridging?

Because I installed the bridge-utils package on a debian host and copied brctl to the damnsmall host and ran it and get "add bridge failed: package not installed".

So I hunted in google and found a bridge how-to that states this error happens when bridging is not enabled in the kernel.

If it's not enabled, what can I do to get it enabled in the kernel and remain a live CD?

Or would this be a feature-add request?

Maybe the first thing to do would be to check the dsl/knoppix .config file to see if bridging is enabled or not?

That seems reasonable enough. Is the .config file used in each iteration of DSL published somewhere?

You can get it from the knoppix-3.4 cd or (I think) from the mydsl kernelsources extension.

That's for 2.4.26 kernel versions.

DSL 4.0 RC's use 2.4.31, and can be found in [mirror]/archive/sources-2.1/dsl.config which has CONFIG_BRIDGE=m (not sure if this is what you're looking for?)

Ah, yes - some scope for confusion here, what with dsl-3 using 2.4.26, dsl-2.1 using 2.4.31, dsl-4 starting off with 2.4.34.1 and moving back to 2.4.31 and finally dsl-n using 2.6.12...

Yes, that would be what I'm looking for. I would just have to load the module, correct?

Or would I first have to obtain the module?

I'm not familiar enough with DSL's architecture to know if the modules are included on the live CD iSO or not.

The modules are in the iso, just try loading it..

modprobe --list returns no results for "bridge". (I also looked in 3.0.1)

Does the ethernet bridge module go by another name?

Is there an alternative way to get the module for loading in a DSL system?

- You have a couple of options. Probably the easiest way is to look on the equivalent knoppix cd (3.4 for dsl-3.4, 4.02 for dsl-n) and see if you can find the module. If the module is there, you can just copy it across and use it.

If the above doesn't work then you can always compile the module from source.

I've been googling around for a while now looking for a knoppix 3.4 cd iso ... or the bridge module source for the dsl 3.4 (2.4.26 kernel) to compile it.

Where's the best place to find either of these?

Thanks in advance!
