I'm going to regret this, but my brain is fryed after a half-dozenremasters........ I d'led 0.8.2,seemed good, remastered with some simple things like skins, etc and booted in my usual way with "dsl dma". Having remastered the iso to include a folder containing lots of dsl packages,I went to it in emelfm (as superuser),selected xine and hit the mydsl button. On running xine from menu or shell, it segfaulted.Promptly blamed my permisions on the remaster, remastered many times, when xine would work,I would discover something else I had left out,and would remaster again. Now I've noticed that xine segfaults when I boot with "dsl dma", but when I don't use dma xine is o.k. I can then use hdparm to turn dma on for dvdrom. So I'm just wondering if anyone knows or can confirm any changes to dma arrangements for 0.8.2? I was using this arrangement - "dsl dma" at boot ,then mydsling xine.dsl with 8.1.1,and it worked fine. Hmmm-no USB drive plugged in at boot-no problem.DMA fine. USB + DMA= xine segfault when starting to play Logo.mpv. Blames "EL-Crappo" brand USB pen,(and maybe, just maybe partitioning of same) and waddles off muttering under breath. "But it works with DSL 082 iso burned to CD,and xine.dsl loaded from hard drive, even with the USB stick plugged in at boot- and I was extra carefull with the remaster, and did EVERYTHING by command line too?!? and anyway, there is nothing but pdf files on the USB stick right now." Must have done something wrong in the last remaster (the seventh!). Posted by adraker on Oct. 02 2004,13:29
Damn I love this thread!I took the stuff out that I had in /etc/skel in the remaster and also I had tried to build in libmp3lame to /usr/lib and DMA,xine, and USB stick all live together happily now.I have only messed with /usr/share/fluxbox, /user/share/xmms/Skins and put a wvdial.conf into /etc now. So thats the end of that problem. If you do a "meo" style remaster,my mistakes may be informative.... Posted by ke4nt1 on Oct. 05 2004,05:00

Hey, at least I'm good for entertainment value!I have since noticed user Meo was surprised by 0.8.2's quirks also.I think I'll leave it alone now- I still don't understand the changes, but what I've got works fine. Posted by adraker on Oct. 08 2004,09:01
......Or so thought I,until trying to use wvdial.dslwith wvdial.conf remastered into /etc..... (Convenience over security) Which,of course won't work now. (I must be the only sentient being on the planet who thinks wvdial rocks...).I don't truck with the saving ppp config / filetool.lst idea. Oh well.Ende. |
