XMMS .m3u playback issueForum: Multimedia Topic: XMMS .m3u playback issue started by: firecat53 Posted by firecat53 on Oct. 08 2006,04:44
Anytime I try to play a .m3u playlist with multiple files (stream locations), xmms stops after each song, CPU use goes to 100% and it will stay that way until I push play again. It will show each song in the playlist on the playlist screen, but refuses to automatically continue through the list!!Any thoughts?? Thanks, Scott Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Oct. 08 2006,05:17
Just a thought - is repeating on? (though that shouldn't cause 100% cpu :/ )

No, repeating is off...

Ah, I think you should have repeating on..

I had same kind of 100% CPU load issues with xmms earlier. I discovered that if any other program (or even flash animation) has reserver your sound card for its use then xmms goes grazy. So I first make sure that no other program has reserved sound card.Even this was a different problem you are having but the 100% CPU load caught my intrest... Repeating on or off makes no difference. I tried also making sure Firefox was closed and dmix (docked.lua) was shutoff to make sure nothing else was using the sound card and it still does the same thing. Anyone else have ideas?? I'd love to listen to the whole playlist without pushing play again after each song!! Thanks, Scott Posted by firecat53 on Jan. 09 2007,04:04
Still haven't solved this one! Anyone new care to take a crack at it? Thanks, Scott

Taking a shot in the dark...is the playlist in DOS format? Maybe xmms is hitting the ^M at the end of a line and freaking out....just a wild guess, though. Another guess, maybe xmms is trying to continue playing the stream when it reaches the end? Posted by firecat53 on Jan. 09 2007,05:51
.m3u is in the following format: (pasted right from xterm, same behavior with any .m3u file I've used).< http://xxxx.homeip.net:5000/mp3....io3.mp3 > < http://xxxx.homeip.net:5000/mp3....io3.mp3 > etc etc When XMMS reaches the end of a song, it says 'connecting', I assume to the next song, and then just waits until I push play again, then it says 'buffering' and starts to play. hmmmmm..... Hmmm....I'm looking at an option here named "No Playlist Advance". Does this apply to you?

I thought you had me there No such luck, however. Doesn't matter whether "no playlist advance" is selected or not...the streaming playlist still doesn't advance. I also noticed that if I click forward (next track) while one track is playing, it will do the same thing: says "connected: waiting for reply" until you either press "next" again or press "play". Also, CPU goes to 100% until next or play is pushed and playback resumes. Any other thoughts?
