I am a linux noob, and I think DSL is fantastic.  I'd realy love to play OGG/MP3 files using my old PC running DSL.

After searching for ages to try to get a list of compatable soundcards, I decided to create this topic on the forum.

If you have a soundcard that works with DSL straight out of the box, with no tweaks (however small :;): ) please list it here.

I'm thinking about buying an old soundblaster from ebay for about £5 but i'd like to get some idea that this will work before i order.

All of my SoundBlaster Live! Value (pci) cards work.

I also think my SB16's worked too, but I don't remember.

I have Sound Blaster Pro (snd-8) working with a DSL 3.0.1 HD install.
I'm not sure what you mean by tweaks, I did have to install sndconfig, and alsa at boot--

Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Edition seems to work ok, no 5.1 but hey, it works. Though aMSN 0.94 won't seem to give me sound...Other than that, it seems to work fine!

The vibra 16 (sb 16 compatible supposedly) is not compatible wtih ALSA, but it works using sndconfig and OSS.

Ever so glad to read some sound is coming out of dsl-boxes, and even mine does after modprobe sb (with or without the irq and dma settings). BUT, the soundlevel is SO low, I at first hardly noticed it was working. Anyone any idea?

OPL3SA2 sound chip works OK. The following lines need to be executed in /opt/bootlocal.sh:

modprobe opl3 io=0x388

modprobe opl3sa2 io=0x370 mss_io=0x530 mpu_io=0x330 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0 ymode=2 isapnp=0 multiple=0

The above addresses & interrupts are correct for a Toshiba Libretto 100CT - different ones may be needed for different systems.
