Add me to the list of DSL 6 users that have their sound card working. Using Xmms play CD now, (Areosmith).--- Posted by Rapidweather on Mar. 06 2004,19:18
Lately, I cannot get xmms to give me a playlist from the cdrom. So, No songs for me. If I run Damn Small off the cdrom drive, then of course I cannot then put a music cd in there and run it (or can I). I am running Damn Small off /knoppix in /dev/hda1, and restore from a tarball in /dev/hdb1. When I try and run xmms, I can't find the cdrom drive, with the music cd! --- Posted by davide on Mar. 08 2004,14:56
you must run DSl with the Toram option. you need 128M Ram to do that.Once you do that, you can use the play cd feature you get in xmms. (this features goes back to version 0.4.something) I never tryied to run "toram" from a HD installed DSL. It should work, I think. hope this helps. Posted by bluefreak on Mar. 19 2004,06:59
u need 128mb to toram? i thought u only need 64mb. anyway it works well on 256mb, 512mb, and 1gb of memory for toram

And if sound doesn't work, what steps do I take?( new linux desktop user, and loving dsl ) If you can help, markp@stratomail.com Posted by acidblue on April 03 2004,05:38
ok so how do you run toram?I already have damnsmall installed Posted by cbagger01 on April 03 2004,06:10
Hmm.. I never thought to run Damnsmall from "toram" after already installing it to hard drive.Usually, you type in 'knoppix toram' at the Boot: prompt when you are running from livecd but I have no idea if it is even possible when you are booting from a hard disk. A fully hd-install DSL system has no compressed filesystem sitting around to load into memory so I doubt that it would work. A "frugal install" or a "poor man's install" should still work with the toram option. Posted by Rapidweather on April 17 2004,22:54
Testing DSL 0.6.3, and find that the Download Low Bandwidth Mp3 Streams is not getting anything. No sound. That did work in DSL 0.6.2 for me on this computer. Only thing I can think of to do is get the /opt/.xmms_streams_grab.sh lowbandwidth script from 0.6.2 and run that. I just tried that, and I get the same result. Anyone else have problems with this?--- Posted by hasty on April 20 2004,19:57
Rapid have you checked the XMMS/preferences option/ MPG123 /configure/streaming and see that shoutcast & icecast are enabled.Worked for me. ps Should you be quoting Djugashvili |
