Got most of it working. But cant see a mixer. Is there a simple mixer tool anywhere ?? Posted by cbagger01 on Feb. 05 2004,03:40
XMMS has some built-in volume/mix controls but they are for music playing.Try doing a dpkg-restore and then installing wmix: apt-get install wmix It's a neat little dockapp that appears near the mount.app in the Fluxbox "slit" window. It supports volume control and line input selection for a variety of audio sources. Good Luck. Posted by Peter Sorensen on Feb. 05 2004,08:11
My acer laptop has winmodem? so net is a ways off. xmms plays cds and mp3 files but microphone is active. how do i get a mixer. otherwise great system. would also like sound recording and editing, but mixer would be a good next step.

There have been a few calls for a small mixer, one may be added in future releases (I hope). In the mean time i have installed 'aumix' via apt-get (terminal based). Posted by EmDee on Feb. 26 2004,21:16
Ok, so there's a mixer (wmix IIRC, see < DSL 0.6.1 screenshot > in the lower right corner) in 0.6.1 now, great! But it always gives me "cannot open mixer device /dev/mixer" when started from command line and won't run otherwise. Actually, sound doesn't work at all with this release but it used to work fine (well, with the volume stuck at 7%, that is) with 0.6 though! What's going on here? Thanks in advance for your help, Marek! Posted by revenger681 on Mar. 27 2004,11:41
I am a compete newbie... I can't get any sound.. Can you do a step-by-step walkthrough on how to get sound going?I tried typing in apt-get install wimx like the forum siad and I get "unknown command" for apt-get Like I said... I am totally new to this... are all the things I need on the ISO image or did I need something else in addition to it? thanks -Tony Posted by revenger681 on Mar. 27 2004,12:28
I found a fix to my problem. Instead of using my PCI Creative Audigy 2 soundcard I enabled the on-board audio (AC97) card and walla. Is there a way I can enable my PCI card though? Posted by Grim on April 04 2004,12:34
---oops, screwed up and can't delete it---

Disable the onboard sound in the bios. Also, while you're in the bios make sure it's not set to "Plug and Play OS" |
