Hey guys, new DSL user having some trouble with the install.I'm trying to get DSL installed on my secondaty HDD on a P233 w/ 98MB RAM. The primary drive has WIN 98 on it's massive 2GB capacity and I've got an 8GB secondary drive installed and formatted for Linux. Unfortunately DSL doesn't recognize this drive, I've verified this by running cfdisk. It only sees the 2gig drive w/ Win 98. I know it's probably something simple and stupid, but I couldn't have figured it out for the life of me. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. Posted by slipaway172 on Mar. 13 2004,03:56

What is the linux partion ? ext2, ext3 , ReiserFS

It's an ext2 partition. I actually was thinking about taking out the primary drive to see if a simpler setup would be favorable.I'm also having a similar problem with another system I'm trying to get Linux running on as well. This time it's the only HDD on the system and /dev/hda can not be found. Just to make sure everything is okay w/ the drive I popped in a Win98 disk and it recognized it just fine, I even let it be formatted and scaned just in case (you know, eBay drive in all). So any ideas why I'm having such bad luck w/ my drives lately??? Thanks again. Posted by TyphoonMentat on Mar. 16 2004,18:23
Tried typing: cfdisk /dev/hdb?Otherwise it won't see the second drive. Posted by Two_five_zero_one on Mar. 17 2004,15:36
I've tried /dev/hdb and also /dev/hdc with no luck. It's the primary drive on the second IDE bus so wouldn't that be /dev/hdc? And when I use cfdisk the primary drive (Win98 FAT32) shows up and when I hit the up or down arrow keys I get a message that there are no other drives present. I may just end up wiping Win98 off the 2GB drive and attempt to install DSL on that and see if I can mount /dev/hdc afterwards. Same problem w/ another system I'm trying to get Linux running on. Windows can detect and use it but Linux just doesn't seem to "see" it. I've even tried changing my jumpers on the drive from primary to cable select on the other system but no luck there. And it's the only drive on the system sans the CD-R drive. |
