I was warned my John. I had an hour to kill so I installed DSL on a spare 14 gig harddrive. The installation went without a hitch. I restored the dpkg database and ran apt-get update. It worked. I installed yahoo messenger without a problem. I then ran apt-get upgrade and it seemed to run OK. Now after I rebooted, X will not come up. I am going to reinstall anyway when I get home from work. apt-get+hdinstall=evil

Sorry for such a late reply, but if you have not already done so you need to run mkliloboot from the install CD and tell it where your DSL installation is. Then, you should be able to boot from the HD.
