WMWifi Not WorkingForum: Window Mangers Topic: WMWifi Not Working started by: Juanito Posted by Juanito on Oct. 16 2005,10:40
After (finally) getting my wireless working under DSL I tried both WM wifi apps so I can see what's going on.wmwifi.dsl sits with the other dock apps displaying red with "Err" in and wmwifi.tar.gz doesn't even appear. The wireless card is a Dell wireless 1350 mini-PCI (Broadcom) running via ndiswrapper. Do these apps work with ndiswrapper? Posted by mikshaw on Oct. 16 2005,15:54
If you start the application from a terminal, do you get any error messages? The appropriate command is probably listed in the "mydsl" section (near the top) of .fluxbox/menu, and if there is a "2>/dev/null" or similar at the end of the command it should be omitted. If I give the command "mydsl-load /path/wmwifi.tar.gz", from an Xterm I get the error message "cannot allocate color"I get the same error message for wmacpi which I am also trying to get working and also for USBview which definately works sometimes. Other mydsl apps (open office, samba) work fine. I'm using XFree86.dsl but I doubt this has got anything to do with it? Posted by mikshaw on Oct. 17 2005,16:38
"cannot allocate color" is not a problem...it was a little bug that occurs while loading any mydsl package. Kent posted a fix for it a little while ago, but i can't remember what it is. Regardless, it has nothing to do with your trouble. The extensions are apparently installing, but what happens when you RUN the program from a terminal (not the mydsl-load script, the actual program itself)? To check things out, I used wmclock which I know works and checked /home/dsl/.fluxbox/menu to see where the mydsl loader put the app:dsl@box:~$ mydsl-load /mnt/sda1/optional/wmclock.tar.gz dsl@box:~$ /opt/wmclock/wmclock This ran with no error messages. dsl@box:~$ mydsl-load /mnt/sda1/optional/wmwifi.tar.gz dsl@box:~$ Cannot allocate color The display blinked (It does this each time I load a myDSL app) but no entry appeared in .fluxbox/menu dsl@box:~$ mydsl-load /mnt/sda1/optional/wmwifi.dsl dsl@box:~$ Cannot allocate color dsl@box:~$ /usr/bin/wmwifi The Dock App appears in the slit with "Err" displayed in red - note that the wlan is up and running - but no error messages appear. dsl@box:~$ mydsl-load /mnt/sda1/optional/wmacpi_1.99r7.dsl dsl@box:~$ Cannot allocate color dsl@box:~$ /usr/bin/wmacpi dsl@box:~$ No Batteries or ACPI not supported This figures as despite booting with apm=off acpi=force and noapm, ACPI doesn't seem to load (and also, /var/log/messages has the error "daemon.err insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.26/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/apm.o: init_module: No such device" but no attempt to load an ACPI module). Any ideas? Do the Dock Apps have a parameter file somewhere that I could modify? Posted by Juanito on Oct. 23 2005,09:13
Whilst messing about with DSL 2.0RC1, I found that wmwifi (wmwifi.tar.gz) now works.I made the DSL 2.0RC1 USB by using the upgrade function on a DSL 1.5 USB so there must be something in the new release that makes it work. Posted by mikshaw on Oct. 23 2005,15:30
2.0RC1 has a newer kernel...that may have helped.
