I'm hoping to get a Lexmark X1150 PrintTrio printing under DSL.

There are reports of people having got the X1150 printing under various distributions, including Debian-based ones, using a Lexmark-produced file for its Z6xx series of printers.

That file was said by Lexmark to be for use with RedHat Linux 9.0, but people using it on Debian-based systems have extracted from it two .rpm files, converted them to .deb files and then installed them successfully.

I have extracted the two .rpm files. I have then issued the appropriate command to be told which other files each .rpm file requires in order to install.

Among those files is "cups >= 1:1.1.15-10".

According to the info file for CUPS.dsl, it's from CUPS version 1.1.14.

Does the fact that the CUPS is in a .dsl version or the fact that the version's older than said to be required necessarily mean that I won't be able to install the .deb files once created or is there some method of forcing them to install anyway?

If there is, are they likely to work?
