Hello,
Anybody using a logitech CLICK! optical mouse?
It's a logitech USB optical mouse with wheel

It did not work with the XF86Config-4_vesa file that came with xfree86 on mydsl. In fact that file was set up like two mice were on the computer I believe. Anyway, I've tried several other mouse sections in the file that I've found on the net or in some of the other config files that came with the xfree86 package on my dsl and I can't get any of them to work. X starts and I have no control over the mouse.

I guess I've been pampered too much in the past where distros set up xfree 86 for me and it just works.

Is there an app to auto-detect my hardware and write this file?

Anyone know what to put in the file so my mouse works? I want to get my nvidia accelaration up and going and check out the games!

Thanks!

there's a xf86config tool in the myDSL repository.  It won't auto-detect your hardware, but will give you some pretty thorough lists of harware from which to choose.

boot with knoppix and use that XF86Config-4 in dsl

I am a complete n00b,  DSL is registering a PS2 mouse and I have a USB.  Would the same tool work for me and could you please explain how I can access it?

If it's just a matter of getting your mouse to work with the included xserver (not xfree86), you can probably accomplish this with the xsetup script.

I went through xsetup.sh,  it gave two server options and under both,  I chose USB mouse but I still have the same problem.

I have been reading resource after resource but still having difficulty with this.  Any recommendation to help with the learning curve?

Post your config file for Xwindow ( I think its called /etc/Xorg.conf but not certain ... and not on a dsl machine atm so I can't look).  Try using xsetup.sh again & picking PS2 to see if that makes a difference.  To use xsetup.sh I highly recommend that if you're in fluxbox already, hit ctrl-alt-backspace, which drops you to a cmd prompt, then run xsetup.sh ... thats the only way I got my usb mouse to work properly.

FYI, I have the logitech marble usb mouse and it works fine with the xvesa setup.

Not having the mouse,  I have been doing everything from the ctrl+alt+backspace menu.  Good idea with xsetup suggestion but no luck

I am getting the navigation down but I am lost in terminology,
What specifically is being reffered to by Xwindow?  I tried /etc/Xorg.conf to no avail...

THANK YOU OH SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

maybe you should try the little USB toPS/2 adapter that came with it.

Are you referring to a software app because I have no PS2 port on my PC

Ah, no.Sorry, I didn't notice that. There is a little hardware adapter that comes with the marble trackball. But you need a PS/2 port on your computer to use it.

Imhaving the same problem.. I have a logitech wireless usb mouse and using xfree86.dsl I cant use the wheel.  I added options in my X86config-4 for 3 button and zaxis 4 5 that i read about someplace.  This only lets me use the actuall click and drag with it and not scrolling...

It is recognized and working with base DSL not with xfree86.

Any suggestions/tip greatly appreciated :)

Thanks,
Mast
