Hi everyone, just a little problem here. I just installed the nvidia.dsl and changed the device line in XF86Config-4. But when I startx, I get a nvidia kernel not loaded. What may be the problem here? Thanks yib Posted by cbagger01 on Dec. 15 2005,17:25
Is the nividia.dsl driver required to have a specific kernel version? In other words, does it work with both DSL 1.5 and also DSL 2.0+?? Feel free to reply if you know the answer. Posted by adraker on Dec. 15 2005,19:46
No, or it didn't previously, and no.The driver configures itself to the kernel it's installed to, and this extension was built some time ago, so it seems to me that a rebuild is needed for this 2.4.31 kernel. The choice of driver version is important, I think Nvidia dropped support for some older cards months ago. The older driver versions are still available, afaik. Yes, kernel dependant, for sure. If you are telling the people that the nvidia driver is not kernel dependant than you will cause them a lot of headache by making them to try the impossible. Thats not nice. But on the other hand, there seem to be very, very few people interested in 3D- apps here. Why do you think nvidia offered a util like nvchooser.sh, which figured out which driver version is suitable for which kernel? BTW, nvidia.dsl runs flawlessly on DSL 0.9 with the 2.4.26 kernel it was made for. Don't forget to change "nv" against "nvidia" in the XF86Config. Its the only crucial thing necessary which is not mentioned in the .info |
