Another question!

How can I get a clean desktop (without enhacement or icons) running DSL in Windows from a usb-drive? Thanks in advance!

Have fun (but stay out of trouble),

You can add noicons to dsl-windows.bat, dsl-linux.sh and to syslinux.cfg
That should handle all three types of boots, Qemu Windows, Qemu Linux, and BIOS.

Or change it in one place.
/home/dsl/..xinitrc and delete or commnet out these lines:

if egrep -qv noicons /proc/cmdline 2>/dev/null; then
 enhance &>/dev/null &
fi

Then the backup/restore will retain this change.

Hi again!

Well the last option (changing .xinitrc) doesn't work with qemu in windows. So I guess I have to try the other option.

Have fun guys,

Hi again!

Well now I have tried to add the noicons option to dsl-windows.bat and it only results in that qemu won't start. I have tried to put the noicons option in different places but the result is the same. Any suggestion in the matter would be much appreciated.

Thanks and keep on having fun,

Again because your backup is not working. Why, because you are not running DSL. You are running your own remaster. Sorry, I cannot support custom remasters.

I think it is unfornate that you fail to mention this fact in the many posts that you are making. Soon, it will be like the boy who cried wolf once too often.

Hi again!

First some fact. I'm presently running dsl-embedded as is with no changes at all. I'm running it from an usb-drive booted with a cdrom because my bios doesn't support booting directly from usb. Under these conditions it is not possible to mount /mnt/hdb from mount.app for example. Yes it works running from within windows but since I have an 4+ years old laptop it works a little bit on the slow side. So usually I use DSL as laid out above and make no mistake I REALLY LIKE DSL AND ALWAYS HAVE SINCE I STARTED USING IT. And my backup is working just fine in the setup described above. But I can't backup to /mnt/hdb as I would like to because of the reasons explained earlier. I currently have a backup on sda1 and hda1 (just in case). Now I think I have explained the situation. I APPRECIATE ALL THE HARD WORK THAT MAKES THIS DISTRO SO GREAT. I just try to share my own small findings with others, nothing else.

Have fun Y'all,
regards meo
