I'd like to use dsl on an old PentiumMMX (win95) machine, but I'd like to take it for a test drive with the embedded version. I've had problems upon problems getting it to run. I'm having all sorts of QEMU problems - all related to missing dll's. The latest is "The QEMU.exe file is linked to missing export kernel32.dll:Cancello." Can someone point me in the right direction on QEMU? Is there a different version that will work on an old win95 machine? And will that version be compatible with DSL? I couldn't find anything on the QEMU website, but I am starting to think QEMU won't work on windows95.Thanks in advance. wafer Posted by roberts on Jan. 03 2007,23:18
That machine would not have enough horeses to run Windows/Qemu/DSL. But you can still test drive DSL before you install, if you have a floppy drive.. 1. Download dsl-v3.1.iso onto your C:\ drive must be in the top level, not in any folders. 2. Download the dsl standard boot floppy and use rawrite to write the image to a good floppy drive. 3.Then boot your Win95 machine from floppy with the folowing command boot: dsl bootfrom=/dev/hda1/dsl-3.1.iso You may need additional boot options like vga=normal It will run slower like this, but you can at least 'test drive' it. Thanks for the reply. I'll give that a shot.

That seems to not always work, try this way, probably better.Download the dsl-embedded.zip and then unzip it in Windows Move the knoppix/ folder to the top level of c:\ So you should have c:\knoppix\knoppix Then use your boot floppy. This method should work more reliably |
