I posted this in the global thread, but it seems inactive. So here it is again.I jumped back into my windows partition to do mine. Used winimage to get the USB boot image onto the pen drive, then IsoBuster to copy the DSL iso over, including the directory structure. It is booting OK, but i'm getting
Pen drive is formatted as Fat. I've tried Fat32, but I got a rather blunt "Boot Failed" message. I've also tried using the meun option after booting from a CD, but it doesn't work, and sometimes it won't start at all. I've got Puppy Linux working off the drive without a hitch, but DSL is better, so i'll keep trying, at least for a while. Posted by ke4nt1 on Jan. 10 2005,00:38
There are dozens of threads here that I've read for making bootableUSBkeys using DSL.. I have several USBKeys myself running DSL nicely. I've never seen the procedure your using mentioned before.. ( not exactly ) The only file you should be grabbing off the CD is the /KNOPPIX/knoppix file. Search the forums for the different threads and how-to's.. If you've got your key booting, which is usually the most difficult part, try the " Install to PenDrive" option from DSL menu .. 73 ke4nt Posted by Boggy B on Jan. 10 2005,00:52
I've tried that option, but usually the script wont even begin, or it refuses to acknowledge that the pen drive is in. Even though i can mount/umount it at will.I've read through a fair few threads, but there are few encountering the same problem as me, similar maybe, but not the same. I got my method from the start of that global thread. Out of date, perhaps? Posted by Boggy B on Jan. 10 2005,06:20
I got it working! I overlooked the fact that the names are case sensitive.I managed to get the menu option from the CD to work, however it created the file and folder "KNOPPIX" while the boot-up sequence was looking for "knoppix". I'm not sure whether this is my fault, or perhaps it's something that needs to be addressed. Anyway, i'm announcing it here, if there's a more appropriate place to do so; I'll find it later. |
