Installing to 128 USB drive

I formated and made 2 partition on the drive using fdisk.
I made a 60mb partition and another 60mb partition. Partition 1 was for the DSL. I dd the .iso image to that partition.
Is that all it takes to get it to work?
What else do I need to do?

I would try the "Install to USB flash drive" option from the DSL menu first.

Otherwise, search the forums for USB bootable keywords and some help is provided.

A while ago I posted a guide on how to get your USB drive to boot up a combination dsl / freedos multiboot setup using the Dell Memory key boot utility program.

Ok, but how do i get to the dsl menu? I am confused. What is the purpose for the .iso? I couldn't find clear cut directions on what to download and how to install it to the usb drive.

OK,

The most typical use of the *.iso file is to be used to create a DSL livecd.

If you burn the *.iso directly to CD-R (Select File -> Burn Image from Nero for example) then you will have a bootable CD-ROM that can be used to start up DSL.

Now once you are up and running you can use the menu item to install DSL to your USB flash device.

Make sure that your device is plugged in before booting up with DSL or the device will not be found.

When installing and booting from USB drive, how do we get it too actually boot from the USB? Must a floppy be inserted to direct it to the USB or what? Wouldnt it be just perfect if it were magically autodetected? Cool..:D

If the BIOS are set properly, it simply boots like any other device, simply put "USB Mass Storage Device" or whatever in front of hd0 in the boot order.

Bam! You're booting DSL from a usb device!

If your BIOS aren't capable of booting from USB (make sure that your bios is up do date), then we have a boot floppy for usb devices in the download area.
