I am having difficulty getting DSL to recognize a new pen drive. I accidentally wiped it, then reformatted to FAT16, but still can not get it working. When I try to mount /dev/sda, I get an erroe message "can't find /dev/sda in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab". What am I doing wrong? Thanks Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Feb. 15 2007,15:21
Did you boot up with the usb stick plugged in already? If not, I don't think fstab is regenerated, so you can use "mount /dev/xdxx /mnt/xdxx" (Also, some usb pens are set up to use the whole device (ie sda) but you might have the usual usb-hdd style (ie sda1 etc.) ) Posted by MakodFilu on Feb. 15 2007,18:01
I have experienced difficulties mounting my FAT16 Superfloppy pendrive formated under DSL *after* plugging and succesfully recognizing it into a Windows machine and then going back to my DSL system.Maybe Windows is doing something besides reading that it shall not do? Note: I am only guessing. Maybe it is totally unrelated. Posted by 2whlgeezer on Feb. 16 2007,01:17
I did plug it in after boot. I hadn't rebooted in a long time (Yea DSL!), so tried rebooting with the stick in. Ran fdisk, repartitioned and away we go. Seems to be working OK, I made a couple of test files, sent them to the pen, and they were there safe and sound. Thanks!!!! |
