DSL Extension Builders, TAKE NOTICEForum: myDSL Extensions (deprecated) Topic: DSL Extension Builders, TAKE NOTICE started by: ke4nt1 Posted by ke4nt1 on July 01 2004,04:14
So many users responded to the issue regarding 'lsm' files.Thank you for your input... It was influential in making this change. As of today, '.lsm' files are no longer to be used with the .dsl extensions, and will be replaced with '.info' files, using the ideas contributed by DSL members and staff. The '.info' files will still need to credit the AUTHOR of the repackaged program, but will now contain more useful entries, such as.. Authored program version - not a repackage version number Comments - more description of what the program does Change log - repackage dates and changes to extensions DSL Extension by - optional place to list your contact info ( replaces "maintained by" ) Here is an example to follow as a template, of a simple '.info' file Title: XGammon Description: Backgammon game for X Version: 0.98 Author: Lambert Klasen, Detlef Steuer Original-site: < http://fawn.unibw-hamburg.de/steuer/xgammon/xgammon.html > Copying-policy: GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE Version 2 ==================================================== Extension by: ke4nt[at]damnsmalllinux[dot]org. Comments: One or two player backgammon game for X. Includes desktop icon and mydsl-menu option. Offers doubling, save, play-by-mail, undo Change-log: 05/30/2004 - First version 06/02/2004 - Add smaller icon-moved icon position This should relieve any tensions about authoring and credit due to authors of the programs we use to build .dsl's DSL information is separate, and clearly marked as such. This will make descript file writing easier for new users, ( no strict script, maintainer info, alternate sites, platforms ) Info files are now more informative for DSL users and visitors, (like reviewers, etc. ) and we can track historically, changes and improvements to builds and extensions as DSL continues to grow. Because of ibiblio's strict policy for uploading anonymously, new extensions contributed to the repository will still be handled in the usual manner by DSL staff via ke4nt1 for now. I have gathered a backlog of new .dsl files contributed by DSL members in the last weeks, which will soon be placed in the "testing" area of the DSL repository. If you haven't posted your builds up in the forums, feel free to email them to me, or email me to setup a transfer at ke4nt[at]damnsmalllinux[dot]org. After a period of testing, solid working extensions and their supporting .md5.txt and .info files will be transfered to the main repository and posted in the repository home page. Feel free to contact me for help or issues regarding extension contributions, or any part of DSL, here in the forum, or via messenger or email... and kudos to all who have contributed their time and packages to DSL. I've seen some good work, and many useful and fun additions being submitted and shared by DSL members and users... ke4nt Posted by tecker on July 01 2004,13:47
ke4nt,What is the maximum size that your inboxes can take. Some DSL packages may be rather large and chalanging to mail. Hope an easy solution can be found. Posted by nucpc on July 01 2004,15:19
The new info files look great.....nice solution.I've added suitable ones to everything I have on, < http://arthur.ph.man.ac.uk/~pc/dsl.html > All the best. Posted by ke4nt1 on July 01 2004,15:46
Nice... thanks for the quick turnaround...nucpcWill post them up with the other files today. As to the email box size, no limit within reason. 100k, 1M, 10M, etc. are fine.... ( no 48MB files, etc.. those can soon be uploaded thru a temp ftp site, which I'm working on now) 73 ke4nt |
