In DSL version 4.4.4 I think the control panel is showing the ssh service as off (button is "out") when it is actually on.

Don't see any problem here. 4.4.4 uses plastic theme and the ssh button is illuminated when ssh is running.

Maybe I don't understand how the panel buttons work. The panel shows cron running by making the button look pressed in. I thought the same thing was suppose to happen with ssh. I activated ssh using the dsl menu. The panel button remains in the out position. In any event this is a minor issue.

I think that's what roberts meant when he says the button is illuminated. Perhaps ssh had problems starting?

ssh is running fine. Here's a screen shot.< screen shot > Posted by roberts on Sep. 02 2008,23:10
Just started ssh from menu and waited until it, ssh, started, i.e., watch cpu status. Then opened cpanel. As it should be, ssh is illuminated. Not sure which version as your screen shoot is not showing current Lua/Fltk theme. Note, cpanel is not a daemon and as such would not update while it, cpanel is displayed. Posted by Big_Pc_Man on Sep. 02 2008,23:20
I did the same thing. I started ssh from the menu then logged in via putty and then opened cpanel. That's what the screen shot is showing. Regarding the version number, I'm running the current iso download 4.4.4 downloaded from: < ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/damnsmall/ >dated 8/10/2008. What is the latest Lua/Fltk theme and where do I get it? Posted by roberts on Sep. 03 2008,03:42
You must not have followed "the update" procedure, i.e, files likely in your backup, that I post whenever a new release has such changes. Also, when reporting an issue, it must be reproducible via boot options. base norestore. Doing such you would see the theme that has been mentioned. Posted by Big_Pc_Man on Sep. 03 2008,12:09
I'm beginning to think I have the wrong iso version. If I follow the download link from < http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/ > I see several download sites. The first one, ftp://ftp.oss.cc.gatech.edu/pub/linux/distributions/damnsmall/currentlooks like it has version 4.2.5 on it so I went to the second site, < ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/damnsmall/current > and used the current iso from there. I wonder if this is the wrong version. What do you think Robert? Edit: Robert you are right about the base norestore boot option when using the iso cd. The control panel is correct under these circumstances. I'm running a USB pendrive system made from the menu tool. There is no backupfile present at the time I make the system so I'm not sure what is going wrong. I guess I'll start over and try it again. Posted by Big_Pc_Man on Sep. 03 2008,19:04
Well I think I finally tracked down what's going on with the cpanel. The bottom line is that the installation of the mydsl gnu-utils.dsl is what appears to be breaking the cpanel process monitoring operation. I installed gnu-utils.dsl using the menu mydsl browser tool. After that cpanel no longer worked properly. Here's a log of my steps:

True. If you change the output of basic system commands, i.e., ps then results will not be as expected. gnu-utils.dsl is not part of base DSL. To accomodate I will have to call busybox ps to achieve desired results.
