Using 4.3 I get this error.

This is most recent error message.
Tried with over two dozen cd's  with TDK and HP cd's.
Sometimes it appears to be recording but unable to mount the cd (it hangs giving scsi errors).
Tried from cmd and also with cdw gui.

Do you have scsi modules loaded or do you boot with a noscsci cheatcode?

Posted by curaga on May 06 2008,16:58
or the idecd cheatcode? It disables burning.

Thanks gents for speedy response.
Am using Lilo Frugal with toram and restore=hda3 only, with generic 4.3.
Do I need to load scsi.tgz?
Edit:
How do I determine which driver to load from scsi.tgz lib?
System Stats:
hdd:rw241040 ATAPI cd/dvd-rom drive.
Modules ide scsi 9040 0.

You don't need scsi modules to use an ide cdrom burner.

What is your device?

Have you done a cdrecord -scanbus ?
This should display your device.

The new cdtools are suppose to support writing to a DVD burner. YMMV.
There is also a mydsl extension (tkdvd.dsl) that supports burning to a DVD burner which I have used before the new cdtools were upgraded

roberts:
-scanbus gives adds as 0,1,0.
see "edit" in previous post.
Thanks.
FYI
Gave cds that failed to a friend to test on his WinOS 'puter and they worked.

My burner is for r/w/rw for cd's only no dvd.

-scanbus reads:
0,0,0 0) Compaq CRD-8322B 1.07 Removable CD-ROM
0,1,0 1) ' RW-241040 1.02 Removable CD_ROM.

Have you used this burner before?
Did you try slow(er) speeds.
I typcially use a burn speed of 4

What about your dma settings?

Yes used it successfully from ver 3xx. Managed to burn ver 4.3 Also Tried various speeds from 24 through 4.
Did not change any basic settings through ver 4.3.
Never set dma for cdrom though I tried removing cdrom and using cdwriter only as master. Tried all three jumper settings MA SL CS on cdwriter as appropriate.

Note: when using this burner with WinOS I noticed the spinning was clearly audible but now it is barely audible
"OPC failed" constantly appears.

Yes, that error is consistent with the use of non-standard, or as we say SUBstandard media. Buy proper blanks or get a better DVD writer.

The OPC error would turn to the drive, since it appears in Windows too?

Thanks for the link curaga. Very similar to my problem.
Tried Livecd with dma but no success. (currently Frugal/Lilo system stats/boot reads nodma).
Still getting: "cdrecord warning drive returns wrong startsec (0) using -150".
Could that mean that the cdwriter is failing?.
Managed to burn one HP cd of 3.4.11 and strangely the cdburner could not read it but my old cdrom could. It starts dsl but with a gray screen and noicons. Did md5sum and it matched.

Tried with Memorex media and "cdrecord speed=4 dev=0,1,0 -data dsl-3.4.11.iso" still get that startsec error but it continued and the last line shows read/write with matching bytes but unable to mount the cdrom with that disc.

Solved the OPC failed-error by manually choosing a drive-specific driver instead of the generic one.
Is there one that matches your drive? (use driver=help to list them)

Posted by JohnJS on May 07 2008,18:35
Tried driver=help as user and sudo su but no response.
Am I supposed to substitute 'driver' with the cdwriter name?

Posted by mikshaw on May 07 2008,21:24
No, just run this command:
cdrecord driver=help
This will list the available drivers

Posted by JohnJS on May 07 2008,22:19
Thanks mikshaw,
See first post in this thread:
"device seems to be: generic mmc cd-rw.
Using scsi-3/mmc cd-r/cd-rw driver mmc_cdr".
Which appears in the driver=help list. Now what?.

Edit:
These two lines:
cdrecord: input/output error send opc scsi sendcmd no error.
and
status: 0x2 (check condition).

Any idea what they mean?.

Edit: 5/8/08.
Success in burning cd:
Used 3.3 ver cd that came with the DSL book as Livecd:
dsl toram dma norestore.
Perhaps my later downloads (versions after 3.3) were not burned correctly.
Many thanks to all for help.

Checking further:
I tried to mount a cd I had burned last year (with probably a dsl3xx).
Unable to mount using the cdwriter that burned it but mountable on cdrom. (I have cdrom and cdrom1(cdwriter) installed.

Decided to re-burn  to a new cd media by first copying all to my harddrive.
Every file copied shows "cp reading /mnt/auto/cdrom/'filename' input/output error" in emelfm.
Also many of the files were jpegs and unusable as only part of the image appears.
Any suggestions?

EDIT:
Tried cdrecord from Aterm with -tao and it worked. cd readable from both cdrom and cdwriter.
Just does not seem to work with the "cd burn app".
Perhaps there is a way to change the 'cd burn app" to accept -tao instead of default -sao.
