I discovered DSL a few days ago and I think its really great, so much things in 50meg...I put it on my usb pendrive and it works nice, but i wonder how I can access to my HDDs that are in NTFS format. I can mount them and read the files with no problem, but I cant create/delete directorys or files. It says "Read only filesystem". It works fine with a fat partition. It may seems like a newbie question, but... that what I am! Thanks P.S. excuse my english if it is bad, my first language is french. (yes im a canadian frog) Posted by kerry on June 23 2006,20:21
linux ntfs support is still work in progress. the reason it's read only is XP does not like things playing with its file structure, most of the time if you try to write to ntfs it will screw windows up. A fat system is the reccomended way to share things with windows.

Thanks for the info kerry, so there's no way I could write to ntfs from linux? Maybe a way to "unlock" my partition from windows...Thanks again Posted by clivesay on June 24 2006,02:42
Use Knoppix 5.0.1. It has NTFS write support. Chris Posted by PSCLML on June 25 2006,02:46
Thanks:) i'll give it a try...Knoppix is similar to DSL? Posted by 300c_pilot on June 25 2006,07:53
I booted the latest version of DSL on a Windows XP pro machine with an NTFS. I was able to mount and copy from the drive. Could not write to it. I was just trying it, did not expect it to work and it did. Posted by piccolo on June 28 2006,10:56
Great new 300c_pilot!Time ago I tried copy files on the computer of my friend but I was not able due, I do think, he has one NTFS partition only. Very frustrating. Also this open new possibilities as Poorman's Install on NTFS partition. Can we now confirm to the world that it is possible write NTFS partitions using DSL 3.01 ? No, you misread his post.He says, you can READ from NTFS. You still cannot write to NTFS partitions unless you have a VERY new verison of the NTFS drivers (IE: KNOPPIX version 5.01), or unless you use the "Captive NTFS" interface. Posted by jpeters on Sep. 02 2007,08:12
Sure come in handy, though, when your windows OS fails to boot and you can just go in with DSL and grab all your files. You can even paste text right into your editor.
