Window sizeForum: X and Fluxbox Topic: Window size started by: Soldat Posted by Soldat on Feb. 26 2007,02:51
All of the program windows always pop-up larger than the size of my monitor. Is there a way to fix this? All of the shortcuts show up on the desktop as they should. Also, I doubt this should go here but no reason to make a new topic so I thought I would ask here. After I install a theme how do you use it? Thanks alot, Soldat Posted by Juanito on Feb. 26 2007,03:25
Maybe you could try changing xsetup to see what happens? Posted by Soldat on Feb. 26 2007,03:37
Well it's already set to the smallest setting (800x600 or something like that). I suppose something else to add to this. I changed the desktop then i rebooted and the desktop has changed back. Why wont that stay the same?

Maybe it is a combination of the resolution and the colour depth - i.e. maybe your machine can support 800x600x8 but not 800x600x24 and so it drops to 640x480x24?

I am unsure as of that. But I am pretty sure that it would be fine, providing the fact that has anything to do with how old the computer is there shouldn't be toooo much of a problem, heh. Also, if anyone can anwser any of my other misc. questions while they are glancing through this thread it would be appreciated. EDIT: Solved the problem, it was the screen resolution, i just used the DSL Panel and chose the last option under Xvesa set up or something like that. Now how do I save my settings like this because I know they wont save.. Questions still: How do I save my desktop etc. and now my settings? And how do I save my desktop aswell as use themes? EDIT AGAIN: I know I am horrible. Is there a screen saver even available? EDIT ONCE AGAIN: Don't shoot me please I am still new to all this and I don't want to make 10000 posts when it really isn't nessasary. I have installed DSL to my hard drive if it makes any difference in how I save things. Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Feb. 26 2007,05:28
- see backup/restore- there's a power saving blanking that's enabled by default. If you want a full blown eye-candy screensaver, you could try xscreensaver - I'm assuming you installed it as a frugal (hence your first misc question) Posted by Soldat on Feb. 26 2007,21:08
Ok I have solved all of those problems. However I have installed things (Via my dsl) and they don't work at all. I right click go to my dsl and select the program with no results. I have tried reinstalling the programs with no more luck. I noticed its not one program, there are a series of them that will not work. (Frozen bubble and gaim just to name a few.)Thanks for all the help still, Soldat EDIT: It appears that I am in love with the edit option I know.. Firefox is one of the main problems. I cannot install flash or new themes on it. How do I update my version of firefox manually? Posted by mikshaw on Feb. 27 2007,00:34
When installing mydsl applications, always read the info file for each package. In the case of Frozen Bubble you need OpenGL, which is provided by the XFree86 extension. For Gaim you need Gtk2. You will also need Gtk2 if you want to upgrade Firefox and the Flash plugin.
