Hello all , I'm trying to remove the default "net" dockapp,
by editing users slitlist , with M.C. from a tty.But try as I may,
the slitlist is always overwritten by something , and reverts
to the original 4 dockapps.I have even created a new 3 line
slitlist in another location and edited the init file to reflect
this , with the same results. This is on a HD installed DSL by
the way.
Can anyone tell me what devious program or process overwrites this file?
I'm new to Windowmaker,Fluxbox,and Dockapps , but I've
followed the Fluxbox docs on this subject.I still don't have
enough info/details on dockapp workings.         Thanks!

Just a thought - are you root?
Check permissions on the file you are trying to edit & use MC as root :)

The apps don't fire from the slitlist, they just take their order of appearance from it. Apps are fired from the 'enhance' script (/usr/bin/enhance I think).  Every time you rerun enhance, all the dockapps are fired in a specific order, and are re-added to the slitlist in that order.

You can modify enhance (as root) to pick and choose which dockapps run.

You can modify your .xinitrc (I think it's called) to not run enhance, but to only run the dockapps and xtdesk that you want.

Thanks for your posts!
Now I understand.I more or less assumed "enhance" to be
a binary/exec beyond my ability to tamper with , but I've
edited it and this has fixed things up nicely.
Wouldn't have thought of it if you hadn't told me.
Now I have only cpu , asmem , and mount apps on enhance
(I don't have a network card).
Thanks again for your great help.

Moi I don't like icons or slit apps.

Keep it clean & simple :)

Thanks for the post.   That worked great!.   One more item....how do I edit the fluxbox "right click" menus?

Thanks,

Hi,

I am happy with the slitlist display but would like to add an indicator for the HDD usage.

Is there a 'dockapp' for such?

What other 'dockapp's are available?

Regards,

Geoff

Yes, always search the forums first!!

Silly me, an answer to the 'dockapp' question ahd already been posted by 'hasty' (in another section).

As 'hasty' suggests, go to  http://www.bensinclair.com/dockapp/ for lots of dockapps.

Bye,

Geoff.
