I’ve been trying out every small Linux distribution I can get my hands on. So far DSL is the best I’ve seen.

What I’d like to do is use DSL as an X Server but it refuses to allow me to connect. I’ve used “xhost +” on my DSL box, set the DISPLAY environmental variable on my client and exported DISPLAY. I know the network connection is good.

BTW the above works fine with a full implementation of Knoppix and other distributions. So what am I missing?

Thanks for the help.

I am not completely sure, but I think that the Xservers that are used by DSL do not allow remote connections.

Try Googling search term "kdrive" for more information on the capabilities of the Kdrive servers Xvesa and Xfbdev.

If you replace the kdrive servers with the standard install of XFree86, you should then be able to remotely connect to the Xserver. I do not know how to do this, and it is very likely that you will break your XWindows if the installation is done incorrectly.

Good Luck.

Yeah you can, but I have it turned off by default because it is a particular security risk with the kdrive servers.  You can open up the xsetup up mini-script and remove "-nolisten tcp", that should do it.

:)

That did the trick. Thanks for the quick response.
