I ran sudo apt-get upgrade in an attempt to bypass an error message when running synaptic for Debian 0.16 that yielded: Error Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) after selecting DistUpgrade and Proceed! in synaptic
Problem may lie in the fact that I do not know how bad I messed up the HD. Even after re-formatting w/ XP NFTS, Kubuntu ext3 and DSL ext2, running a check of the memory yields red red red.
Currently fstab reads /dev/hda / ext2 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1 proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/fd0 /floppy vfat defaults,user,noauto,showexec,umask=022 0 0 /dev/cdrom mnt/auto /cdrom iso9660 defaults,ro,user,noexec,noauto 0 0 # partitions found by dsl #/dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1 ext3 noauto,users,exec 0 0
if that is of any help. Considering removal of HD and inserting as slave in another computer, reformatting and then returning.
