I'm new to DSL, and I'd just installed it on my HP laptop. It's got an integrated SoundMAX card, AC97 I believe. On boot, during autodetect, it discontinues halfway through with an error that some part of modprobe.conf was missing.
I'd installed the ALSA set from MyDSL, with the gnutils and synaptic/apt enabling sets like it instructed. Booting with dsl alsa from LILO works, and some things appear to compile or process related to ALSA.
After doing this, in XMMS, no matter what I set output to, asides from the Disk Writer plugin, everything gives me an error message, to the tune of:
"Couldn't open audio. Please check that: 1. You have correct output plugin selected 2. No other programs is blocking the soundcard 3. Your soundcard is configured properly."
There is no audio output, and in DSL's system information bar in the lower left corner, there's no audio control. When I try running "aumix," it reports, "aumix: error opening mixer" Any help is much appreciated.
