FYI,
When you are listening to an internet streaming radio station like found on Shoutcast.com, by default XMMS does not display the name of the artist and the song title. It only displays the name of the shoucast station / link.
You can fix this by doing the following:
Bring XMMS up to the front so that it is the active window. Then either press CTRL-P keys or right click on X MULTIMEDIA SYSTEM text and choose Options -> Preferences from the context menu.
Go to the Audio I/O Plugins tab and click on the "MPEG Layer 1/2/3 Player" so that it is selected.
Then press the configure button.
When the configure window appears, click on the middle tab (Streaming) and at the bottom, depress the "Enable SHOUT/Icecast title streaming" checkbox.
Then press the OK button and then APPLY and OK again.
Then stop any active streams and load them up with the play button.
You should now see the artist/title info in addition to the station title.
