Here´s a little introduction to music-fans, wanting to go to bed with nice music and shutting down the system without getting out of the bed. this is especially for old machines making a lot of noise.
First: make your xmms playlist you want to here while getting to the land of dreams. Right-click on the xmms-window, choose "options" --> "preferences" and select the "general-plugins" tab. choose the "songchange" plugin and left-click on "configurate". now you have two possibilitys to entry shell commands. choose the one at the bottom. now you can entry a "shutdown"-command. on my machine i´m using the following shutdown-command: sudo shutdown -h now use the enable button to get the plugin active.
sudo is to get the superuser rights. shutdown is the shutdown-shellcommand -h is the option to automatically switch off the machine after shutting down (i think so ) now is the time to execute the command.
When xmms is now reaching the end of the playlist, it should shut down your system and switch off the machine, so you won´t have to get out of your bed...
Please post bug-reports and corrections if there are better methods. please open the terminal, type shutdown --help and read well before using! this comes with no warranty
