I use DSL 3.4 (frugal HD) and I have added the "secure" and "protect" option to my grub menu.lst.

Now ... everytime I boot DSL it is asking me for all these passwords, and I have to confirm each one of them. How can I make this persistant? I read somewhere on the forum you have to add "IT" to your filetool.lst, but so far I couldn't figure out what to add.

Aaaaand ... if I add this to the filetool.lst, will I get a login screen?

Another thing I've noticed, by digging through the files ... the password I enter for the encryption, shows up as plain text - /ramdisk/etc/sysconfig/bfe - maybe I am doing something wrong, but this doesn't look right to me?

Any help is appreciated.

Both of those options are for the nomadic live CD or emulation thereof, frugal. As such the system is compressed and read only. While you can add /etc/passwd files to persist your chosen login pasword (do a fourm search for specifics). The backup password is a catch-22 if it is stored in the encrypted backup. It is stored on the ramdisk during live session in order to be able to perform the backup upon shutdown. If not, I would have to double prompt you again upon shutdown.

If you are looking for multiple logins, login prompt, and persistence of multiple users and passwords you would be better off with a tradtional hard drive instalation.

But now I'm wondering what sense does it make at all to have the secure mode option? I mean whoever boots the system, enters whatever password he/she wants to, and once the system is up and running there doesn't seem to be a difference in the permissions. I mean I'm still user "dsl".
