DSL Ideas and Suggestions :: DSL versioning

OK, I know, this could be the dumbest post ever OR a reasonable suggestion for an amazinlgy and funily overlooked situation.

i had dloaded DSL a while ago and only now I found time to give it a try. So I booted and when I tried to use some dsl extentions none seemed to work... "hmm.. odd... this is dsl 0.7 so this should work... er, wait a sec... is this 0.7 ?... let's see... let's see... damn, I can' t find the version number anywhere !!!"

I even did some dmesg | grep' ing and still can' t find it :(

So, is there a way to tell what version I am running?
if not, maybe you could add that in future releases, just to avoid silly posts like mine  :p

Thanks in advance

I agree with you. There is no version number in DSL cd. Correct me if i'm wrong. here is a suggestion. Make a text file and put change log and version details or simply put it in DSL control panel.
yeah would be good however i dont see why the extensions wouldnt work they worked with 0.6 as well just no automated menu entry had to use run program but they all worked the ones i tried xine, the games,gimp............ open them with tar -C / -zxvr appname, dsl they will run just no menu

Hi guys

well, I mostly wanted to know what version I have so I could ask about extension in that one, but I shall post that in it' s adequate forum. Then again, I think you already answered my not-yet-asked question.

Cheers

I do not know where the DSL version number is listed.

However, I can say this:

If you have DSL version 7.1, the DATE/TIME of the knoppix file on the cdrom should be found with this command:

ls -al /cdrom/KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX

Results:
-r--r--r--    1 root     root     48209893 May 31 17:58 /cdrom/KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX
