DSL Ideas and Suggestions :: Fire fox
I noticed today in this article that the next release of mozilla firefox is going to be significantly smaller. I can do most of my web browsing between dillo and gLinks, but both of them still have trouble with some web pages. I know you value compact programs, and with good reason. Is firefox getting small enough to be included yet? The article says 4.6mb for 0.9.
I apologise if someone has covered this already, i haven't been keeping up to date recently.
Well done for all the new stuff thats been added since I last checked. The myDSL updates sounds excelent. And the control panel!
Well, at the moment, FireFox is a downloadable module that you can download and install if you have the time and bandwidth to. But for the main LiveCD, I don't think that'll be included - the filesize of that alone is more than what two or three programs and all that come with them use, so probably not in the main install. You can d/l it, or an extension of it, and it'll work like a hot damn for ya, though.
Dillo reads slashdot ok now. Ill get by.
Did anyone try to make a .dsl for firefox 0.9 alreay?
I was thinking about trying it, but I expect lots of missing libraries which would make it hard, and this could make the .dsl rather big.
However, it would be useful since I would like to use the mplayerplug-in which needs a recent version of firefox / mozilla.

Firefox 0.9 requires GTK 2.0 or higher, and I think DSL has only GTK 1.2 out of the box.
GTK 2 needs a lot more memory to function, not to mention the fact that the libraries are considerably larger than 1.2, so it's really not feasable to use gtk2 in a minimalist distro like DSL.
now a .dsl of gtk2+firefox0.9 would be rather interesting...
