DSL Ideas and Suggestions :: WMDrawer as desktop icon?
OK, this one's a bit left-field, but wondering if it's possible to get several instances of wmdrawer working on the desktop as such, if not, in the slit. The idea being one drawer per category of icon - ie., Net, Office, System Config, Games, etc. Something to tidy everything away under, but still have seperate categories?
Yeah, it's late, very half-baked idea, but hey. Try creating a separate rc file for each instance of wmdrawer. Launch each instance with the -c option: wmdrawer -c ~/.wmdrawer/netrc & wmdrawer -c ~/.wmdrawer/officerc & wmdrawer -c ~/.wmdrawer/systemrc &You could also set the config file for 3 rows and have the first icon of each row be a description for the apps in that row. Would eliminate clicking on multiple wmdrawers to access apps.

Yeah, but I'm thinking a "cool" factor of having seperate drawers, with their own icons, for each category, to cut down the need for a heap of icons on the desktop. Inspired by checking out some screenshots of enlightenment (which was always WAY too slow and bloated when I tried it years ago, but it looked cool... anyone know if they've improved it's performance?)
Mikshaw, yep, that worked, will mess around and see what I can come up with, make some new drwaer icons etc...
Is it possible to run TWO slits perchance? One dedicated to drawers only?OK, did some messing around, here's a screenshot of a sort of mock-up, ideally you would have a seperate slit for the drawers, as it gets too much having everything in the one slit. Personally I'd have the "drawer" slit maybe left-center or top-center, with the "standard" slit where it usually is on the right. The idea is to have in essence what is 5 icons on the desktop only, cleaning it up a hell of a lot, with the standard icons hidden away in the draws in a categorised way, with clear labels as to what they actually are (eg. Net => "Browser - Firefox", "Email - Sylphead, etc)
Guess it depends on whether you can actually seperate these draws out into their own slit, other slit-like thing, or have them somehow directly on the desktop as pseudo-icons?
[EDIT] Trimmed the image down and scaled it, so it was a bit easier on the downloads [/EDIT]
