DSL Ideas and Suggestions :: New DSL Desktops



a few folks have expressed a little interest in installing XFCE-4 so ill add the few bugs im encountering.
When booting, startx fails with some errors, but simply running startx again  works fine.  As this is only a slight bother, i've yet to try and troubleshoot it.  It'd be nice to figure it out and make a clean and tidy how-to for the wiki.
Leaving X / Stopping XFCE cannot be done from the menu, as the panel is the last to load from .xinitrc.  Right-clicking the panel and selecting quit will work fine.
The changes made to the panel are not saved unless you choose 'Restart' from the Panel's menu _before_ you quit.  It simply restarts the Panel, not all of XFCE, so it takes but a second.  (which is the reason i didnt have the motivation to troubleshoot it either) :)
I believe both can be fixed just by rearranging the order in which the XFCE components are loaded in .xinitrc.

When I release my XFCE4.2.2 package I'll make sure all of these things work... look for test copies in the next week or so... my very first every .DSL (xterminal and mousepad - two xfce library based apps) worked flawlessly the first time...

Right now I have 2.3mb (compressed .DSL) for xterminal, mousepad and the libraries they need... and 10mb for the rest of XFCE (minus printing and sessions and toys)

It can also get smaller but I haven't focussed on trimming things down yet...

In anyone is used to gnome-terminal they'd be right at home with xterminal.
how bout a 1.9mb .dsl instead of 110mbs of apt? :)

Thanks for the link back to my post... I guess it's working for you? :-)  Though 1.9mb is quite a bit smaller than the 10mb I originally mentioned.  Amazing what's possible when you put your mind to it.
