DSL Ideas and Suggestions :: time to update kernel?

Is it time to update the DSL kernel to 2.4.26 or greater if it's released yet?  I have had a hell of a time finding another LiveCD that was 1) able to compile stuff and 2) had the same kernel that DSL is still using.  I think it still has 2.4.20.   I searched and searched and found Knoppix 3.0 or 3.1 somewhere to compile my wlan driver, but it still doesn't work.

So short of installing to HDD and apt-getting all sorts of stuff, can you update the next one to 2.4.26 so I could compile with Knoppix 3.4, which I and many others already have?

DSL 0.6.x/0.7x is based on one of the knoppix 3.3 releases.

So if you have one of the knoppix 3.3 releases that comes with kernel 2.4.22-xfs then you are all set.  This release is less than a year old so it should be kicking around somewhere.

That could be my problem then, using the wrong kernel and Knoppix to compile.  I do have 3.3 around, so I'll try to recompile.  I do think that it would be nice to post somewhere prominent, like on the damn small site, applications or packages page, very clearly which kernel is in use.  There are a lot of drivers and programs like this that people must compile.  The packages page actually has a line that says kernel 2.4.20 is used.

"ii  kernel-image-2 10.00.Custom   Linux kernel binary image for version 2.4.20"

That's where I got the idea to compile for 2.4.20.

To see what kernel you are running open a shell and type uname -a
That part of the web site must be out of date.

The last version of DSL with the old kernel was DSL version 0.5.3.1

FYI,  there were several versions of knoppix 3.3 that were released.  Make sure that your version is the one that contains the 2.4.22-xfs kernel.
